New Banking Hub for Acton – consultation

We have been contacted by our MP’s office about the new banking hub in Acton which is due to open later in 2022.

Building on open green spaces

An outline planning application was recently submitted to Ealing Council to build a 52-bedroom care home on the green land between St Dunstans Avenue And St Dunstans Gardens.
This came as a big surprise to local residents and appears to be a proposal by property speculator.

Peter Mason, the current leader of Ealing Council is aware of it (see below) – and expressed his concerns – but Acton residents would like to go further.
As he explained at the Churchfield Community Association AGM, it is possible for anyone to submit a planning application to build on any land so the Developers are within their rights to do so. Residents understand his point. Nevertheless it’s worrying for local people to be the ones to resist opportunism like this one. It would be helpful if LBE would consider publishing an intention to refuse consent to build on publicly owned green space in the Borough “where it is legally possible to do so”. Such a policy would blend well with other policies on clean air and residents’ amenities and would help Residents, Councillors and Officers to deal with applications like this.

Acton Conservation Area changes

Ealing Council is carrying out a consultation on conservation zones across the borough. This includes areas within Acton.

The Acton areas concerned are near Acton Park, Acton Green, Acton Town Centre and Mill Hill Park.
The intention is to look at changes that have happened over the last 15 years or so and determine if they should lead to changes in designation.

For example – The Goldsmith Arms marked the northern edge of one zone – but it has been demolished recently and is being replaced by a block of flats and some shops. So the council is proposing to reduce the size of that zone.

You have until 18th March 2021 to submit your input to the council.

Shaping Ealing

Ealing Council is collecting information from residents to help form their Local Plan. The Local Plan is one of the key documents drawn up by the local planning authority, that will be used to shape how the borough could look over the next 15 years.

Friary Park – common land

The developers who are building the new blocks to replace Friary Park have applied to use the green area to the north east of their development as if were part of their land. They want to put a playground and a shipping container (as a “bike hub”) on the land.

Local groups have objected and have sent a formal legal letter to the council to object.
